    Footy fans can live the dream of once again sinking cans of beer at Australia’s premier sporting stadiums as the MCG and select venues move away from hated plastic cups. <br>The Queensland and Victorian governments have brought back cans as part of drives to ban single-use plastic.<br> A fan holds a tray of plastic cups at an AFL game.

    The MCG has brought back cans for beer drinkers – but not everywhere in the famous ground<br>For the first time since the early ’90s, fans at the MCG are now able to buy cans of lager as part of a trial that began at the start of the AFL season.<br> <br /> However, tinnies are only available on the MCG’s first level, plus the members areas on level two and three. <br>Fans in level four will have to stick to the dreaded plastic cups, and when crowds exceed 75,000 cans are taken off the shelves altogether in line with licensing rules. <br> AFL fans in Queensland can hopefully trial the switch back to cans at major venues in the second half of 2022<br> The switch to plastic was made in the early 1990s after infamous incidents like the 1988 State of Origin, where Queensland fans pelted cans at Blues’ players after a Wally Lewis sin bin<br>Queensland Eco friendly water Bottle companies are set to follow Victoria’s lead by rolling out cans and biodegradable cups to replace plastic in a six-month trial. <br>The trial is planned to start in the second half of the year at major venues like the Gabba, Suncorp Stadium and the Brisbane Entertainment centre.<br>The early ’90s switch to plastic was put down to incidents where fans pelted cans at rival teams.<br>The infamous sin-binning of Wally Lewis at Lang Park in the 1988 State of Origin clash stopped the game when Queensland fans threw hundreds of cans at the Blues side. <br>
